Adopt a Chihuahua

Chihuahua Dog

Nemo the Dog needs a home

Hi … my name is Nemo and here are some things you need to know about me:

Approximate age/birthdate: born ~2009

Weight/size:  14 lbs

Housebroken:  YES (still wants to be top dog so may still try to mark territory)

Crate trained:  YES

Personality:  reserved, cautious of strangers, protective of those he loves

Energy level:  medium

Fenced yard required?:   DEFINITELY PREFERRED

Does he/she jump fences?  NO

Leash walk:  YES

Obedience training:  Knows ‘sit’

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK … gets a little stressed at first

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  He tolerates most dogs 20 lbs and under and he just avoids larger dogs  … but he really does not want any of them invading his personal space.  He will growl and snap to warn them off.

Social with cats: Do not know … hasn’t been around cats

Good with children: Has not been around children in foster care, but given his personality he would probably tolerate older (10 yrs and older), well-mannered, respectful children who would respect his space and play with him kindly.  He does not like to be grabbed or restrained/held by anyone.

Adoption donation: $75

Early in life Nemo was in a household with lots of other little dogs.  Then for a while he was an only pup and he decided he needed to be the guardian/protector of his two special people … to the point of being unpleasant to others.  Due to some serious health issues in his human family, he is now back with AAMR and they are heartbroken.  It’s easy to see that he still misses them, too, and is confused about what has happened. He really seems to love people and now, back in foster care with other dogs around, he is not protective of his foster family.

Nemo loves belly rubs, and he loves to nap on the pillows of a human’s bed, but he is not particularly a lap dog. And he does not like being forced to do anything that he doesn’t want to.  He is a smart boy and he responds best to positive reinforcement.  He will do best in a moderately active household where people who have time to spend with him, but who will not encourage or allow him to become overprotective.

Nemo really misses having people of his very own, and he is ready to become part of a new family who will love him forever.

If you think Nemo might be the perfect pup for you, please go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete your adoption application online.

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Nemo picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.

Please feel free to email [email protected] if you have additional questions.
